ROCKBRIDGE CAMERA CLUB:
365/52 CHALLENGE, PART 2

Picture
The 365/52 Photo Challenge, Part 2

The Rockbridge Camera Club has met monthly  for over 25 years. Members meet to share ideas, learn new techniques, and nurture their creativity by exhibiting and sharing their photos with friends who share their passion for photography. With the onset of the Covid pandemic the club has not met in person since Spring of 2020 -- and the prospect of meeting for 2022 still looks to be a way off.

In January 2021 the club launched the 365/52 Photo Challenge,” which was designed to keep members shooting daily (365 days) and sharing the photos weekly (52 weeks) on the club’s website (www.rockbridgecameraclub.com). The Challenge was not to find a special subject, but rather to use their creativity and camera skills to make any subject special. With that idea in mind, members were asked to get creative in choosing subjects around the house or neighborhood by photographing them in ways that make them look special maybe with unique lighting, a different point of view, a special lens, or a unique effect.

Our first show of images by participants (it was open to all, not just members) was held at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts in Clifton Forge, VA in July 2021 and included images submitted during the first half of 2021. The current show is Part 2 of the challenge and includes images made from July through December of 2021.

New members and beginning photographers are always welcome. So if you need a little spark in your photo life during these dark times, read about our new challenge for 2022 we call “Your Assignment Is . . .” During this calendar year we will provide an open-ended assignment each month and ask members to submit three images during the month that exemplify the assignment. As an example, the assignment for January was “Leading Lines,” a popular technique to use in composition. For February the assignment is “Minimalism,” a style of photography that challenges every level of photographer. With each assignment there are links provided to explain the topics and provide examples.

To learn more about the new monthly challenge or to see all the images from the 365/52 Challenge, go to www.rockbridgecameraclub.com. All levels of photographers are invited to participate. There is no fee, and you will be invited to join our monthly Zoom training sessions featuring
photographers from around the world.
