C-120: COPPER REPOUSSE (age 12 to adult)
Repoussé dates well back in history, to time of the pharaohs of Egypt and is found in many cultures, from jewelry to masks to serving dishes. Often called embossing but embossing correctly refers to a machine stamped piece, not artist handmade pieces. In this one-day workshop participants learn to plan and create a low-relief metal wall tile. Patiently alternating repousséor pushing and chasing of metal foil sheets stretches the metal to give dimension to your design. Some design ideas will also be provided if your personal muse is not with you.
