Wood fired pottery dates back to the 5th century and was a necessary technique if one chose to have ware for their food made from clay. Today's wood fire potters select this technique due to its unique and aesthetic effect which occurs between clay, glazes, and wood. This intermediate to advanced class will prepare pots, mix glazes, and learn the process of wood firing. Wood firing is labor intensive and all involved in the class will be expected to participate in the actual loading and firing. Students may choose Saturday, May 22 or Sunday, May 23 to load the kiln with their pots. The wood firing will begin Friday Evening, May 28th and complete the afternoon of May 29th. Students will select a 3 hour time slot to assist with adding wood to the kiln during the firing. All pots will be ready for pick up on May 31.
